Stereotypes      I instantly thought of The World Ends with You when I read this. The main character, Neku, wears headphones to push himself away from society, convinced that it's impossible to understand people.      After reviewing  Playing with a trope ( September 23, 202), I found out that  Neku fits right into the stereotype of untwisted for more than half of the game. He makes friends, all be it aggressively, but doesn't understand how people communicate. He breaks this trope at the end of the game, when he finally takes off the headphones that he always wears, so that he can make an attempt to understand his friends.      I want to play with the trope of reconstruction with Neku. It's never explained what made him into the antisocial person he is, and I feel like that can easily be explored through this trope. He rarely gets sad, and I think his character needs it.

Gestures  Shape and Base Sketch      When I first started sketching Razor, I had envisioned him having some sort of sharp tail or legs. First, I went with a robotic tail made up of small triangles. However, it didn't fit his aesthetic of a speedy trouble maker. So, I decided to give him an engine in place of his lower body, with the angles of a triangle.  Scale Sketch      I had given Razor a circular head in my first sketch, but it looked odd upon inspection. Again, I was able to see ow I could fit in a design feature into his aesthetic, and instead I gave him "fire hair". This allows the player to visually tell that this character is, no pun intended, hot headed and reckless. Color Sketches      Razor's first color scheme was the one I wanted him to have when I began sketching him. An orange shaded jacket with bright eyes and dark robotic parts. His color scheme shows his character traits of being cool and cocky, whi...

Blog Post 1: Gesture - Scribble / Uncanny Valley

Image
When I first took this image, I immediately thought of a robot with a gaping jaw. However, that would go deep into the uncanny valley. So instead, I looked at the dispenser again, but left the hand tray out. The large portion where the hand sanitizer is held reminded me of a soldier's helmet, and the clear area in the front made me think of a futuristic visor as well.  The curved area underneath the dispenser made me think of a human's chin.
